A former collegiate national debate champion, McElvy brings extensive courtroom experience to her practice. She has secured favorable judgments in automobile accident cases and successfully recovered hundreds of personal injury settlements for her clients.

Throughout her career, McElvy has handled cases across a wide range of legal disciplines. As a public defender, she represented more than 500 clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges. Her experience also includes personal injury litigation, landlord-tenant disputes, probate and estate planning, business formation, and appraisal disputes involving international companies. She has served as lead counsel in complex estate matters, including defending beneficiaries accused of undue influence, and has advocated for clients with special needs through supplemental needs trusts, settlement trusts, marital trusts, and domestic asset protection trusts.

McElvy’s broad legal background has given her a particular strength in analyzing and interpreting evidence. That skill helped her defeat one of Alabama’s largest municipalities at the summary judgment stage by strategically using medical records and discovery evidence to support her client’s case. She also has extensive experience working with expert witnesses in real estate, business, medical, criminal, and estate-related matters.

McElvy lives in Birmingham with her teenage son, Jack. Outside the courtroom, she enjoys pickleball, good coffee, and live music. She serves on the Special Education Advisory Panel, coaches an adult co-ed softball team, and is Chair-Elect of the Birmingham Bar Association Women Lawyers Section.
